Mr. Kelley 5-8
Greetings in the name of our Risen King Jesus!
Praise the LORD! Spring is HERE! The weather this week is predicted to be awesome! What great weather for our Spring sports and to have the children also get outside to get more exercise. As the weather turns nicer, it is harder for some to stay focused on getting their work done faithfully. Please continue to assist at home by ensuring that all work items are completed faithfully and on time. Using work time properly at school will greatly diminish the amount of work that comes home. Let's end the school year doing our best for our Savior Jesus!
This week is our MAP(Measures of Academic Proficiency) testing. The homework load should be minimal this week. This also gives ample opportunity for students to catch up on missing work and work on 4th Quarter Accelerated Reader goals (21 points for 7th & 24 points for 8th).
Below are highlights in our classes this week:
7/8 Bible Classes: This week our class began our unit of study "God's Gift of Sex". This unit will require parental assistance during our lessons. Please look for lesson study guide materials coming home each week. Add your discussion points to the study guide and return it with your signature. If you have any questions or topics that you would like discussed in class, please let me know. During our study of the four Gospels, we reviewed Jesus being condemned to death by Pontius Pilate. Next week, we review our Savior's death on the cross. Our four Gospels units correlate well with the Lenten and Easter church year calendar!
7/8 Literature: This week we will be finishing our literature unit. The end of our unit focuses on Civil Rights' heroes. Next week we will begin a new novel, Across Five Aprils, which focuses on the Civil War which will correlate with our United States history classes.
Math 8:This week we began a new unit. For the remainder of the year, we will be learning how to find the surface area and volume of 3-dimensional figures.
7/8 History: Along with our study of life in the South prior to the Civil War, the students are working on an Inventor/Invention project that was created during the 1800's. The students will present their projects next week. The students were given a rubric and guidelines for this project to help them along the way.
5-8 Art: This week we continue our study of the art of Sheila McGraw. We will use her style of art to create our own "Loving Family Collage". The students are required to use photos that show their family, events, activities, Savior, pets, etc. that are important in their life. This project will be due on April 25.
Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!
